Surprised to read in Thackeray's The Four Georges that George the IV at various times in his life, had an income of between 50,000 to 120,000 pounds per annum and debts of between 160,000 to 650,000 pounds. His wardrobe costs per annum are said to be 10,000 pounds! If this isn't
beyond everything, he still had to make applications to
Parliement for still more money.
