Marie Bernadette,
I am posting in answer to your question on
using contractions in speech during the Regency Period.
As I understand it using contractions in speech was consider
ed vulgar in the extreme.Though young gentlemen used them
as part of the slang of the day.If you go to the bibliogra-
phy there is an extremly helpful book that I posted about
here last summer:"The Regency Reference Book" by Emily Hen-
drickson. There is a section on the language of the period
that you might find helpful. There is an address to write to
if you would like to purchase this book.I found it very good
just to read.
Thanks lots,
Mary Collette List
