Leslie
Uh, now I feel like I probably made a HUGE mistake in quoting this. [...] What I wanted to do was to stimulate a discussion of whether or not the changing fashions from the time of JA's youth (tightly corseted) to her adulthood (the Regency) bore out the author's claim that society in England (or Europe) became more permissive.

As Marie Bernadette pointed out and Caroline confirmed, this topic is entirely appropriate. Forgive me, Leslie, for having written something that caused you to feel that you may have done something wrong. I apologize sincerely. (I personally have no knowledge about or opinion on the subject, so I won't post to the thread any more.)
