I think the point is not what you, or I,or Marie Bernadette thinks, but whether any one of us can come up with something that can be used as an argument to support or knock down the statement quoted by Lesley in her question.The statement was to the effect that there is a correlation between fashion and morality and that the changes in fashion in Jane Austen's lifetime correspond with a change in attiude and in the behaviour of society. On a purely personal note, I cannot find very much to justify either stance, and until I do, I'm not going to be able contibute much to this discussion!
