I am interested in finding sources which might help create a picture of what it was like to go to the opera or symphony during this time. My own conception currently only draws from the movie, "My Fair Lady" Not the same time period, but I'm wondering if it wasn't rougly the same? Very formal dress, intermissions with wine, champaigne, coffee/tea, polite mingling. Or do you suppose people had their refreshments served to them within a suite if they possessed a box?

I know in something I read (don't remember which book, now) the "theater" usually included the performance of three plays, so I know they had to have breaks at least during this kind of evening. Any thoughts? EL
