] Seriously though, my experience with them is that they are a light side dish. I never was served just cucumber sandwiches. They were always served with something else. And since they are a light, mild taste, they were never served with anything heavy.

So you were originally being ironical? Its odd that a society so finely tuned to irony as this one, didn't pick it up! Ah .... irony more subtle, dainty and delicate than a cucumber sandwich!
