A question about honorific useage
Posted by Woodhouse on December 05, 1997 at 12:17:26:
I know that you folks are the experts, so here goes:
What happens when an earldom passes from a nobleman directly to his grandson? Specifically, do the granddaughters, the sisters of the new earl, receive the honorific of Lady?
Certainly they would have received the honorific had the title passed first to their father, but what if he is dead??? They would not have been called Ladies as mere granddaughters of the earl, daughters of the heir, would they?
Does this question make sense? Any help would be most appreciated.
