I don't know how it happened but we have managed to skip an excellant source of Regency informantion. The Birth of the Modern: World Society 1815-1830 the US publisher and date are: HarperCollins 1991, ISBN# 0066016574x cost $35.00us. This is a doorstop of a book filled with copious amounts of data on nearly everything: wars, fashion, writers and more. Mr Johnson does make a few galreing errors (like calling Mrs Elton Mrs Eldon for example) but it is a solid work. There are a few problems though; the book is divided into long section which makes dipping a bit difficult but this is made up by an excellant index. Mr Johnson's style makes it an easy read but having read the thing cover to cover, I wouldn't suggest it. At least not one sitting.
