I recently bought a copy of Cecil Willet Cunnington's English Women's Clothing in the Nineteenth Century, and I love it. Cunnington - who had himself amassed a huge collection of period clothing - gives a blow by blow account of each year's fashions from 1800 to 1900, putting each trend into its historical and social context. This includes hairstyles, sleepwear, undergarments, and accessories.

I bought the book for costuming purposes - mainly to authenticate detailing on gowns I am making and having made - but it looks like a great overall resource for ayone interested in women's or historical fashion.
