I was using the paperback copy. I have a feeling it wasn't Longford's own words, but a quote from someone else, and it was either on the back cover, or in the early chapters at the viceregal court, or something said about him by the Ladies of Llangollen. I apologise for the vagueness..and I hope I'm not sending everyone on a wild goose chase!
