Was it an acceptable thing for young women to have pierced ears in Regency times? I couldn't help noticing that many female characters in the film adaptations had earrings and wondered if that was correct. I remember in Louisa May Alcott's Eight Cousins is was extraordinarily shocking when the heroine got her ears pierced on the sly. Does anyone know?
