In response to Jane Austen's Only surviving dress (or so they say), written by Emily on November 19, 1997 at 11:13:44

I once read in a brochure that at Chawton house in the spring, they have some sort of festival and on display is, as the brochure says ".....Jane Austen's only surviving dress."

Friends of mine just returned from England, having toured Jane Austen's house (and videotaped the entire interior, including the dress display). The dresses on display are rotated routinely and are authentic Regency dresses. However, the display placard clearly states that none of the dresses actually belonged to JA. I, too, would love to see what she really wore!
