Reality v. Fantasy

Thanks, Jenny, the pictures are great!
Several things went through my mind on seeing this...
First was that apron-front- the back and sleeves worn like a bolero and the 'bib' pinned on top- very S&S!
Second was how sturdy the dress is- it must have been a 'washing dress'- and how it doesn't cling to the figure, as some would like to believe of all these fashions!
Third was that ,if my memory serves me, roller printing of cloth wasn't invented until after 1800. So this dress couldn't have been made until after then and probably wasn't the height of fashion. The 'cleavage' is pretty modest, too. Obviously not reported in "La Belle Assemblée" !
So, what kind of lady would have worn it, do you think?
