No big weddings, No big receptions!

In response to wedding receptions, written by Patricia on November 09, 1997 at 13:18:50
] I have read that weddings in the Regency tended to be simple. Were there receptions a la "Four Weddings and a Funeral"?
I think the videos are a bit misleading; in P&P2 Charlotte says that "We shall spend the wedding night at Lucas Lodge" but in the book it says "The bride and bridegroom set off for Kent from the church door". I think that travel time would have prohibited any reception--it would take too long and force the couple to spend the night with the bride's parents (presuming the reception was held there).
Weddings were not considered such huge social events as they are today.
