Wedding breakfast

] In Emma 2 there was what appeared to be a reception for Mr. and Mrs. Weston but in Emma 3 they seemed to ride off into the sunset as did Mr. and Mrs. Rushworth and Julia in the Mansfield Park video.
] What was the custom? If the bridal couple did not attend a reception did they go home to Netherfield or Pemberly or perhaps to an inn?
I think that there was little celebration of the event; the couple simply head over to the church with a few people in tow and get hitched. I believe there might be a wedding breakfast after the ceremony (a tradition Britain's Royals continue), but not much more.
