] ] In the second case, perhaps Darcy was meeting Wickham as a show of friendship. That could have been before they became unfriendly, or the reason they became unfriendly. Or the relationship could have been strained, and Darcy was extending an olive branch.
] Where is it said that they should not have been friends by then? They only became enemies after the business of the living and later Georgiana. As we all know "they played together as boys". (It is not so extraordinary that someone once your best friend later becomes your worst enemy, without there being anything wrong in your friendship before.)
I was just suggesting possibilities. But I think the relationship was strained before the living and Georgiana. In his letter to Lizzy, Darcy says something about seeing Wickham as his father could not since the two younger were about the same age--which P&P2 changed into the Cambridge/girl scene. We don't know for sure when everything started, but isn't that the idea behind Fanfic? :-)
