Tilde, you made my heart sigh this morning. My Grandma used to do tatting. Her little shuttle was a precious looking silver thing that looked very old and seemed such an odd tool to me as a little girl. A memory that may not apply outside the Michigan farmlands: she never used any other form of the word, other than tatting; i.e., she didn't "tat" -- she did or worked "tatting."
