] This a question which has bugged me for a while, and I hope you haven't discussed it yet, but how long did it take them (women) to put their hair up in all those flash ways? I know that they had a maid to help/do it for them, but how did they manage to keep all that hair up???
Even with modern equipment it takes about half an hour to put up the hair in "authentic" Regency fashion. So it would have taken about an hour to put the hair up in formal situations when you take into consideration the amount of time needed to heat the curling and crimping irons every few minutes. Everyday hair was acheived via curling rags or papers worn at night. Hairpins have been around since ancient times so they would have pinned up the majority of their hair and the parts that were left loose in the front may have well fallen throughout the day a la Persuasion. They also had pomades and other styling tools for their use when styling.
