In response to What would the value of a pound or 100 pounds be in today's dollars?, written by Sophie on October 22, 1997 at 17:35:56

] This is my first posting. I want to know how the money in England during the Regency period can be translated into US dollars so I can better understand the amound various characters had. For example, Mr. Bennet had about 2,000 pounds a year.

I've looked and looked for the answer to that question and I've never been able to find a satifactory answer. Most scholars get caught up in the idea of what a pound could buy and won't give a definitive answer.
