Watches and Fobs

They are watches, and Mrs. Reynolds wears a very long one too. I guess they hadn't come up with wrist watches yet.
I really believe that what we are looking at on the outside of the men's pants are FOBS not watches... Fobs are the short watch chains or ribbons that hang out of a watch pocket- the watch is inside the pocket and the fob hangs on the outside- it is easier to get the watch out that way. Fobs are also considered to be the small decorations that hang on the end of the fob (chain or ribbon).
By the way, I believe that wrist watches became popular during World War I- It has something to do with watches on the wrists being easier for the soldiers to carry around then in a pocket watch (didn't have to put down the gun to check out the time???) Not really sure about this one, don't quote me.
