It sounds like this book should be in our biblipography, Ken.Would you care to give us a short review to include with it? (say, about 50 words?)
The "pin-money" bit reminds me of the Cruickshank cartoon- "Pin Money -Needle Money" which conrasts a rich young woman at her dresser with her poverty-stricken contemporary, sewing into the small hours by the light of a tallow candle for a few pence per shirt. The sad thing is that both still exist today- it's just that the "needle money" is earned in third-world countries, not at home.
