Lesley, I've been hunting in my basement for "The Reader's Digest Book of English Folktales"- don't anyone laugh too much here, it's a great book, and scared me out of my wits the first time I read it! I cannot find it, so I'm afraid it's probably gone the way of all things.But I remember the rectory as somewhere in the Midlands....didn't it have a stage-coach going through the living room?
Go on, get the book out again!
