No shorter hair in front

I hadn't thought of it before, but neither Emma has the hair cut short around the face as they did in P&P. I think Marianne in the S&S adaptation had the short curls, but I'm having trouble remembering how Elinor's was done.

Maybe the smoother look was judged to be more attractive to modern audiences? I must say I wouldn't really want my hair cut like Jane's and or wigged like Lizzy's in P&P2.
