] Yes! They used animal teeth, wired to their own, apparently, or sometimes wooden ones, specially carved.
According to the Sharpe novels, teeth were also taken out of the mouths of dead soldiers and sold to make dentures. (The army didn't exactly pay its men well, so they had to make a living in other ways.)
