Elissa, please forgive me if this sounds crabby; it's not meant to be. But I am getting increasingly worried about the way you come in here and post a question which involves considerable thought and some research, and then disappear out again. All we know about you is that you are writing a novel. I have asked you for further information, and you have not given it. I have asked for a sample of your work, and received no response. The people who post here do so with the intention of sharing knowledge about a topic we all love. Those that do not have a great deal of knowledge make up for it by providing good company and good conversation on our other boards.As far as I can see, you have yet to do this.
All this information that we are giving you - is it for your novel? Do you intend to show it to us? Are you intending to cite Pemberley as a source? At the moment I feel that some posters are bending over backwards to pour knowledge into a void, and the nasty question of Copyright is beginning to bug me.And whilst I don't mind helping any author out with his/her research, I'm beginning to feel a sucker. I object to you treating others this way!
BTW, I shall be happy to give you information on black servants in this period when I have a better picture of you and your intentions.
