WHY DOES JANE BENNET NOD HER HEAD IN SLOW MOTION AS THE DANCE SEQUENCE BEGINS?
According to The Making of Pride and Prejudice book, a good deal of footage was spoiled due to a hair on the camera lens. As a result, the remaining usuable footage shot for the scene had to be pieced together and made to match the music. Noticing this flaw is one of the first signs of the dreaded P&P2 addiction -- especially if you can see the head bob in your mind's eye without referring to your tape.
Get ready. Here.
It's Mr. Beveridge's Maggot, 17th century, no known composer but published by John Playford in a book of popular English country dance arrangements. Our Music from the movies page provides some sheet music, midi files and links on this and other music. (And yes, we've noticed that Mr B's Maggot also is danced in Emma2.)The song Lizzy sings at Pemberley is Cherubino's aria "Voi che sapete" from Act I of the Marriage of Figaro, with English lyrics which are not a translation from the opera. Here is a link to an old post with the words as sung in P&P2: Celia's transcription of Lizzy's song.
Here's more music information from a post on AUSTEN-L and here's a link from Contra Dance in Hawaii with midis and dance instruction.
Also see our Music from the Movies page for more information on sheet music and CDs.
