Some of us, however, will just have to grow old as we cannot afford Mustang convertables or MGBs...
]
As for your mother, it is those who still find life interesting enough to continue learning about it who live to be 77 or 88 or 99 or, as my own grandmother did, 106

True re: longevity; not so re: expensive convertibles. Since MGBs were no longer in production even then, the only ones to be had were used. I paid far less for mine than I wound up spending on repairs down the road (sorry). It turned out to be a foolish (but fun) investment.
Studies do support the theory that the single most important factor contributing to longevity is pursuit of interests which provide a sense of purpose in life.

] Kali, cheer up - you've found a fellow cat lover. I was so sorry to hear that you felt abandoned this morning. I stayed up as late as I could last night, but I am usually up much later and often come online. I agree it's more fun when you can actually "talk" with someone more or less simultaneously instead of searching for buried responses the next day. At least you can catch up without the list growing in light traffic. I, too, had my own (negative) visions of what I thought was called a "chat line". To my surprise, I am excessively diverted.

The subject of the thread had changed somewhere along the line from when to snip to ages and sex of children. When this happens, the posts about when to snip should have been deleted, since that now had no bearing on what was being discussed.
Cheryl
___
Cheryl, I specifically didn't want to wipe out the subject of snipping for the sake of anyone else who needed to know about this, even though (and because) we changed to another topic. As topics often shift, I don't feel it is my place to clear out the original trail. Perhaps the solution in this case is to create a separate thread?

]I love watching the BBC when I'm in England in the summer because there are no commercials. Last summer I
watched the Olympics - in the U.S. NBC put in a commercial every three minutes, or so it seemed - much more
enjoyable on BBC!
But at least NBC put in sports every ten minutes!

Yes, my VCR is being put to good use lately, between today's show and tomorrow's P&P. What a ghastly hour to tape, though - 7am. How do the other time zones manage it? I don't trust my timer.

She really is a cutie. Live comes on at 9 am here (which is when I am supposed to be at work) so I just started a tape recording before I left and let it run til it ran out. Got to watch the show when I got home. Brings back fond memories of dance class at that age.
Know what you mean about taping -- I have various programs set on my VCRs to catch: P&P2 on Wednesday mornings, Beauty and the Beast every afternoon, The Duchess of Duke Street on Saturday evenings and then assorted "one-time" tapings when I may not be home. So far it has worked out fine. Though I'll have to forego my B&B tapings as I am getting a satelite dish on Thursday and can't get WGN with the programming. (bummer)

Hi Kali! Are we actually on at the same time? Yes, I was up late last night but not as late as I often am, so we should be able to catch each other despite the time difference. I am not sure when is the busiest time, but possibly Amy does? Yes, we managed to get up and watch the show but I had to wake Christina as she did not have school today. She sees herself in videotapes so often that I'm not sure she realized the difference. I filmed the class myself the week before during Halloween. Guess what costume she wore - what else - a cat, of course. Black leotard, tights, tail, collar, whiskers. She loves cats and is more comfortable with them than dogs. She rather shied away from Regis and was incredulous that he wore her friend's tutu. Thanks for asking - you're a darling.

: The casting of Jane in P&P1 was so perfect - the woman just exuded sweetness - that I had trouble at first with Susannah Harker in the role for P&P2.
_______
Though I liked the Jane in P&P1, I felt that Susannah Harker did a much better job of playing Jane as JA wrote her. I felt the P&P1 actress was not reserved enough -- even Darcy could have seen how much she cared.

Anne, I can't believe you would go to the trouble of turning on your VCR and letting it run all day for such a bit of a glimpse. For P&P I can understand, but for that? What a dear you are. My own mother didn't even tape the show, although she watched it live. She doesn't know how to use her VCR, despite our efforts to show her. It is true, the experts in operating these gadgets are (the real) youngsters.
I hope you can recycle the tape. I do, and sometimes I accidentally tape over something important like my son's copy of Home Alone. I suffered for that one. I can't quite bring myself to break off the tab on the case so it can't be re-recorded, just in case I want to add something to the tape.
For the very reason you cited, my brother has both a dish and cable for local access, but I'm not about to go that far. I understand the reason why the dish broadcasters don't carry local stations is not for lack of technology or any such sensible reason. They were legally blocked by - guess who - the cable operators. Otherwise I guess they would be out of business. It does make things unnecessarily complicated and costly for the consumer, doesn't it? I keep waiting for the superhighway to free everything up so we can all cruise with no restraints, but instead it will probably become more cumbersome. There is too much (profit) potential for it to be simple. Thanks again.

That sounds fascinating and a lot of fun. I grew up in the military and, though my family was with me so I wasn't on my own, I loved going to other countries and learning about other people and how they lived. The first time that I went overseas it was to England, so we almost spoke the same language. (We moved there from a small town in Tennessee so the English thought that I had a speech impediment!) Daddy was an exchange officer with the RAF so we lived on an English base, went to English schools, etc. What a vast change for a 9 year old -- but we loved it there. I am trying to go back through work as I can't afford a pleasure trip at the moment.

I wonder if Bingley ever found out that his sisters also knew that Jane was in London. I imaging that Jane would mention it in passing (or would she be too kind to hurt his opinion of his sister?) I wonder at his response if he knew.
