Anyone interested in Jane Austen stuff, Past Times catalog (1-800-621-6020) has several Jane Austen items. 1997 Jane Austen Diary, Cassandra Stationery (with shadowed excerpts from a letter written by Jane to Cassandra), and the Jane Austen Letters Book. The catalog also offers other british stuff, Celtic, Medieval, etc.

: : I just noticed that when Lizzie walks outside when the sun is shining, you can see the outline of her legs through her dresses. Would dresses have been that thin back then? I think that would have been very revealing for that time. However, they weren't ashamed to show cleavage, so I guess a little leg wouldn't bother them. Any thoughts?

: I read somewhere also that young women of that era were known to "wet down" their thin muslim dresses the better to display their figures!

Please forgive me if this posts twice.; I had some trouble. Just wanted to say sorry for the typo --- I wrote "muslim" when I meant "muslin" , a big difference. No offense meant. I'm just a poor typist. g.

: : I like this scene, because it shows his typical result when talking to Lizzy; he starts out by asking how her family is (nice, safe, generic question), gets and answer, and then Wham! she asks him a question that he is not prepared to answer.

: Isn't that so true? She really zaps him every time. He can't find a safe subject. "Do you often walk into Meryton" Wham!

I had always thought the scene where Darcy is watching Jane leave was Lizzies imagination of what happened. Just as when Lizzie finds out about Lydia and Wickham she thinks of when Wickhem said "there is one lady I will surely miss" she imagines he and Lydia looking at each other?
Have I completely misread this?

: Eric
Ohhh wish that I could, it sounds great! In which part of Italy is Taormina exactly? Not too near Naples I hope, as it would get a bit crowded when the USN Med cruises hit town.
How about a virtual Tea/Latte On Dec. 16, Jane Austen's Birthday?

I'll ask them if they have suggestions/tips I could pass on to you. I found law school rather tedious, but fortunately law practice is more interesting. Good luck!!

Hilary,
You *must* make these puppets!! Imagine the slappable Bingley sisters puppet set for venting one's feelings while viewing Duckface and her rotten sister on the screen..or a Lady C. De B. puppet for those PMS days..a Mrs. Bennett puppet for when the kids start to drive you crazy...
OR what about our dear Amy and her audiocassettes of P&P2 for listening in the car! Say she is on a long trip and is stuck in a traffic jam on the highway. The puppets!
OR those of us on the East Coast who have been having a great deal of challenging weather this year with frequent power outages

: : : I'm coming late to this discussion, but I see the making of a merchandising dynasty here.....and there's still time to get out a glossy catalogue by Thanksgiving (a la Neiman Marcus): The Pemberley Collection - Catering to Polished Societies Everywhere.
: : We have the necessary talent - Eric could manage our Hurst line of wines and spirits, Hilary's got bedding and fine linens planned out, Cheryl(if I remember correctly)has expertise with leather volumes....Think of the possibilities!

: Hilary
: How kind of you to think of me. Lingerie definitely has appeal, but I think Candace might have a better feel for it. I daresay I might be tempted by Small Appliances....we could offer three models: The Bingley, The Wickham, and of course, the piece de resistance of the collection - The Darcy. Batteries will not be included.

: Thanks, Amy! I'll definitely look for it. Five minutes is lengthy for a promo. A&E won't be pressing that into their slots very often -- they're too keen on advertising to sap that space. Prime-time will probably be out of the question. Morning is about right, as you point out -- but I am on the west-coast! Too early for me.
___________________
On the west coast I often caught the longer promos for P&P2 just before 8 PM - during the summer I think there was something running at the 7:00 hour on certain days that was not a full hour in length and they ended up having time to run their own promos quite consistently.

: No, but the first part did give the bittersweet feeling that you have lived a while and see a few things. Maybe we are all somewhat deeper than we appear at first blush, kind of like an Austen novel.

Oh dear. I am not deep. Perhaps my enthusiastic participation in the daggy bed threads has tainted my reputation. I am particularly unlucky in meeting with persons so well able to expose my real character, in a part of the world where I had hoped to pass myself off with some degree of credit! :-)
