: I've just seen the 'missing minutes-' the extra scenes which are on the tapes but were not broadcast on TV: I would die for a few more seconds! In one of my favorite 'missing scenes' Darcy snaps at Miss Bingley for once again teasing him about Elizabeth- He is at his most supremely gorgeous in this scene! His 'What?!' is marvelous! What a powerfully emotional moment. Is it a question, a reproach, a mere awakening from a brooding reverie? I've watched it over and over. The other 'missing scene' of Darcy leaving the parsonage after Lizzy's rejection is great for the nice long look at his his fabulous face and charming curls.

True. All true. I admire him. I greatly esteem him and feel gratitude to him for bringing Darcy to life for us. But I must say I was ashamed to be a fan after reading the reports on the Firthlist from fans who went to view him at the English Patient opening. As he signed autographs, they identified themselves to him as people "from his web page." If anyone ever overlaps this place with those types of groupies I will be grieved, shocked, ready to shut it down. Sorry, you guys, you know I hate to put people down, but I felt such a shiver of revulsion at this behavior (plus the realization that I have a mild strain of the sam fever), that I had to vent.

Well well well,
Well I'm here on the udder side of the world in Australia, about 13 hours ahead of SF. Should anyone here in Oz or, if you're willing to fly Qantas to get here, would like to meet perhaps we could get together to see a screening of "Emma" which is currently screening in cinemas everywhere. The only problem would be to work out an easy central venue. Any offers?

Okay, That does it. I can't stand it anymore. I will finally have some time of my own this weekend and I am going to do a poll on the age of posters here. This bunching up around the 38-45 region is too suspicious. What can it mean?

Hi!

Did anyone nodiced, that the protraits of Darcy/Georiana Darcy/Wickham didn't look like them? not at all? especialy Darcy's, couldn't they find a better painter? or was it fashion in those day to draw things not in the way they look like?

A little more info about the new Emma

Posted by Amy on November 08, 1996 at 08:13:45:

A&E is showing a new Emma promo, about 5 minutes with interviews by Birtwistle, Davies, Beckinsale the actors who play Mrs Weston and Mr Knightly (not what you might call a heartthrob, but interesting), the costume designer and the director.

I did manage to make it to the VCR in time to tape a bit of it. When I watch it again, I will report more, but I am sure we will all catch it plenty of times before February. One thing I found quite interesting was a Davies comment meant to justify the appropriateness of the 2-hour duration. Yeah, right. But there it is! We can't make it any longer now, now can we? So I resolve not to whine about the length another time from this date.

FYI: it was aired at 7:55 am Eastern on Friday, 11/8.

It might just mean that we are almost - heaven forbid - middle-aged? By the way, Kathie Lee came to mind because my 3 year old daughter is good friends with her daughter and they are going to appear with their ballet class on her show Live next week. Some may call it exploitation, but a group of 3 year girls in their tutus IS just about the cutest thing I've ever seen. It also helps you feel young/old at the same time.

Pianofortes as Gifts

Posted by Ian on November 08, 1996 at 08:26:25:

Having just seen "Emma" I was wondering in how many other Jane Austen novels (films and TV series)
is the Pianoforte given as a gift? I can think of at least four instances.

If I could afford it, I would be vastly happy to fly to Australia to meet. I would love to fly to Australia for any reason. Unfortunately, finances are not that lush, and getting slimmer by the day. More play at work

Posted by Amy on November 08, 1996 at 09:06:48:

I reported a couple weeks ago that I managed to get the phrase "high dudgeon" into an article on taking naps. I am happy to say the editor left it in. It is sometimes quite amazing what a writer can get away with.

In an ongoing effort to put something of P&P into everything I do or think in my hopelessly P&P-centered life, here is the latest stretch: a reference to P&P in a sidebar to my story about radio network programming. I won't put in the whole sidebar since it will be published next month in a radio trade pub. But here are the last 2 grafs:

Westwood One offers a number of TV tie-ins in addition to all the CNN offerings such as Larry King Live and a new two-minute daily feature, "Last Night on Larry King Live." "We noticed that a lot of the big information stations were talking about statements made on Larry King the night before, so we put something together for them, with sound bites," said Gordon Piel, senior vice president of affiliate relations for Westwood One Entertainment. Westwood already had been marketing "Last Night on Tonight With Jay Leno," a one-minute show pulling the best bits of Leno's nightly monologue.

What will come next? Well, let's think psychographically. How about updates for classical stations on the newest A&E or Masterpiece Theatre literary adaptations, complete with period dance music and interviews with the likes of Pride & Prejudice heartbeat Colin "Mr. Darcy" Firth? It could happen.
