Re: Caroline's design

: : Donna, it is much too early in the morning to conjure up such nauseating images.
:
: Agreed. Double Ewwww. Donna I vow you like to make us squirm as much as JA herself.
:
: : But seriously (just for a moment, don't panic) I don't think Caroline would allow such a thing. Her object is not to bed Darcy but to wed him and get her clutches on his name, his money and his estate. That whole "why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free" thing.

: You think? She is so irrational in her wooing tactics that I do believe she possesses an obsession for Darcy near equal to Darcy's for Lizzy.

I thought it would open a line of disgust. I do think Mrs. Hurst is worse then Miss B. When she questions Jane about her family connection and the poor girl is ill. They were
so awful to her at that moment. They are very bad.

JA say that Miss Bingley was so humilated with Mr.Darcy marriage. So she couldn't ever really been in love with him.
Then this is why she could be around him in Elizabeth company.I don't know how she could have been only out for the money and positon, because in her eyes he is perfect. She tries to persuade Lizzie that his action were justified towards Whickham. When Lizzie wanted to laugh at him she said tease clamness of temper and presence of mind. He is not in her mind a subject to be laughed at.She wasn't on an intimate level with him like she would like everyone to believe, including Lizzie. Poor girl I don't know how she ever got over him.

Thanks Donna

I live in Milton Keynes -- this is a new town/city whicht is only 25 years old. Most people that live there are overspill from Brum in the north and London in the south. The kids born and brought up in MK have developed an accent of their own which is a hybrid between American and Australian (something to do with the kind of TV they watch). I have a hard time understanding what they are trying to say a lot of the time!

: What do you think about re-casting P&P with Dilbert characters? Dilbert could be Mr. Bennet, Dogbert could be Wickham and Ratbert could be Mr. Collins. Now, what about the women?

Unfortunately, as in real corporate life, there are few women portrayed. I have only noticed one, but she gets in plenty of zingers so I suppose she would be Lizzy.

: I've also felt that it gives him a better reason for walking

You know we all have had dreams of being at school or a meeting naked, I have sometimes conducted meetings sitting in my bed dressed in my nightgown! I wonder if this was Darcy's version of the naked dream come true?

I agree with you Ann, I like the way it is played out in the film better, although I suppose in the book he left to go and compose himself and returned to show Lizzy he had changed (figuratively, not literally, although the literal change, as you say, works quite well.)

(Let's see if I can get the image in the right place this time.)

Actually, I think there is more than one woman, it's just that they all look alike (unlike the men). They all have that sort of wavy pyramid hair-do. There is also a secretary character who appears infrequently who has a kind of beehive. Maybe she could be Hill. Still, it's going to be confusing if all the women look alike. I suppose we should forget this idea.

I agree the swimming scene works because it shows how Darcy has changed.

He impulsively decides to cool off in the water and dives headlong into the lake. This spontaneous act shows how he's becoming less stiff and proper, and more relaxed and open.

This is mirrored by his physical disarray when he sees Lizzy. Although he's quick to get dressed up again (he hasn't gotten *that* informal!) it shows he's loosening up.
