: Two versions of S&S
: Two versions of Emma

: I can't stop....I'm hopelessly addicted.

: Truly, you have nothing to worry about in terms of addiction. You are not close yet. Let me just suggest a few signs of addiction so you will know what to look for:

-you've given up Big Macs for white soup and ragout
-you've started legal proceedings to change your
husband's first name to Fitzwilliam (it will put an
end to the poor dear's confusion.)
-Citibank keeps calling about unusual spending patterns
on your card (must be that 2K to Jane Austen Books in Chicago)
-when Candace begins to take sides, so to speak, you
can refer to your notes
-you've contacted Sony about VCR technology (you're
sure with super slo-mo you'd find what you're
looking for in the Bath scene.)
-you're having a Derbyshire rock formation erected in
your backyard

Perhaps more later. Now I must go - the contractors want to know what to do with the old swing set. Grace

The Return of Betty

Indeed, you did not scare away Betty. Yes, I have been busy.
I browse here every once in awhile and was surprised that the discussion had gotten away from talk of the book and movie itself and had turned to the production angle. My comment wasn't to "attack" anyone(I'm an Austen fan too) but that you should be talking about more substantial matters than what the sound mixers and other production people did.

Betty

P.S. You really cannot scare me. (By the way, thank you sooo much for those of you who decided to take my comment about the credits seriously, that only serves to prove a point.)

: G'day All,
: As I see that everyone is having trouble accessing OJ's Page (if anyone is able please e-mail to reassure me that the page is still there!!!) then the image is at A&Etv P&P site, but not in a readily available form. It takes the form of an AVI or MPEG. If you take the trouble to download the movie then you'll notice various characters in situations such as Lizzy running, Darcy fencing, and Wickham kissing Lizzy's hand. With a suitable viewer you may be able to view the movie frame-by-frame.
: Please see "Cheesehead? and Trouble Loading Image" comments at the foot of the P&P2 BB.

Wired beauty?

When the Gardiners arrive at Longbourn to pick up Lizzy for their holiday, does it sound to anyone else like Mrs Gardiner is saying,

"Nothing can compare to the wired, untamed beauty of the Peaks."

: : It's a Microsoft Internet Explorer plug in called Comic Chat and it works just like regular IRC except you can "be" comic character. It's pretty limited right now but there are plans for customizable characters. Wouldn't it be almost too much fun to design some Regency characters -- or even play at being P&P characters?
: : I do not wish to start anyone on a new addiction. God knows I don't need to spend any more time on the net, but I have often been on simultaneously with three or four of you and wished I could talk more directly.

I know Ian is probably right, but I love this idea! I would love to work on designing characters, but don't know how much help I'll be right now. (I borrowed an HTML book and am limping through it. Would help if I could stay away from the P&PBB. Also going to Web graphics class on my lunch hour.) By the by, all the new word wrap features are fab.

: Of course I meant to say Mrs. *Bennet*. Oh dear, you don't suppose there is some kind of Freudian thing going on here!
: Cheryl

Personally, I think Freud would have a field day with this whole BB. ;)

OK, I will admit that Mr. Bennet gets a preverse pleasure out of springing things on his wife and daughters, but that's actually one of the reasons I like him. Remember, he's not a real person, he's a character in a novel. Think how boring he would be if he always did exactly what Mrs. Bennet wanted when she wanted him to. Or told her things exactly when he should. We wouldn't like him as much as we do if he didn't "get her going" now and then.

OK, repeat after me, "It's not real, it's only a book" (substitute movie if you like).

Good. That's enough reality for today. Now, back to talking about these people as if they were real!

Darcy's admiration of Elizabeth

: But wasn't Darcy only enraptured by her eyes?

___________________
Initially it was the "pair of fine eyes", but he soon began to appreciate
the whole of her countenance.

Chapter Six
"Occupied in observing Mr. Bingley's attentions to her sister,
Elizabeth was far from suspecting that she was herself becoming
an object of some interest in the eyes of his friend. Mr. Darcy
had at first scarcely allowed her to be pretty; he had looked at her
without admiration at the ball; and when they next met, he looked
at her only to criticize. But no sooner had he made it clear to
himself and his friends that she had hardly a good feature in her
face, than he began to find it was rendered uncommonly intelligent
by the beautiful expression of her dark eyes. To this discovery
succeeded some others equally mortifying. Though he had dectected
with a critical eye more than one failure of perfect symmetry
in her form, he was forced to acknowledge her figure to be light
and pleasing; and in spite of his asserting that her manners were
not those of the fashionable world, he was caught by their easy
playfulness." ...
