Darcy in Kent

: : I'm new here (enjoying every wonderful word) and hope you will not mind my joining in. Talk of the Hunsford visit makes me think of something I've always found interesting. If I remember the book correctly, Darcy and his cousin arrive early in the week before Easter. Darcy sees Elizabeth at church services only. Then the entire Collins party is invited to tea on Easter night. Doesn't this make you wonder what Darcy is feeling during that time before Easter
: when he knows Elizabeth is so near? Is he determined not to put himself in danger by seeing her(like that last day at Netherfield when he refused to speak to her)/ After all, the group exit from Netherfield was to be the break both for Bingley/Jane..... and for himself/Elizabeth. Now, at Hunsford, what does he do? Obviously seeing her at Easter is enough to make him lose all resolve and to want to see her as often as possible. I like the way the book mentions that
: he is often meeting her in the park and even insisting on turning back with her(wish the movie had shown this). Does he plan his day around these walks in hopes of meeting her in one of her solitary rambles? Finally, one more point on the Hunsford topic: I love the fact that Mr. Darcy sees Charlotte's worth, commenting to Lizzy on Mr. Collins' good fortune in his choice of wife. This shows Mr. Darcy's perception and values.

Fitzwilliam also says to Elizabeth that Darcy has put off their scheduled
departure. Obviously he is hanging around for something ;-).

If the new size doesn't significantly help others, can we have the old ones back? I had just gotton good and comfy with them! (Yes, I'm an old dog who has difficulty learning new tricks!)

Amy,

My browser (Netscape) doesn't wrap at all. All of the text remains in a
single line, no matter how long it is, until you hit return.

The problem is also that the comments window is now too big and runs off the
edge of the screen. To see the text, sometimes you need to move the scroll
bar at the bottom of the screen, which is a bot of a pain in the neck.

I can't explain why, but I really do feel sorry for Jennifer Ehle. I understand that she was very much hurt regarding their break up and too upset to even comment on it.
On the other hand, Colin Firth seems to have got over it quite quickly.
But then, I guess it's wrong to judge when one is unaware of the particulars.

I watched "Four Weddings and a Funeral", with Hugh Grant, a couple of days ago. I'm not sure but do the actors that play Miss Bingley and Mr. Hurst in P&P2 act in Four Weddings and a Funeral?

: : : : Paola
: : : : Does anyone have any suggestions as to where Darcy and Lizzy may
: : : : have spend their wedding night?
: : : : The first place that comes to mind is Pemberley, but since they
: : : : were married at Longbourn church, Pemberley would be an
: : : : unattainable alternative (given the difficult roads and the
: : : : distance).
: : :
: : : ___________________
: : : Perhaps at Mr. Darcy's house in London? Or at the country estate of some friend or relation on the way north? The party that Darcy brought with him to Pemberly (the Bingleys, & Georgiana) stayed somewhere en route.
: : : Joan, too

: : I like the idea of Netherfield, with Miss Bingley down the hall.
: : Not really, I think some Romantic place in route more Darcy's

: : Mich

I'd have to disagree here. Assuming that Darcy would have been acquainted with most of the gentry, there are several suitable places where they might of stayed on the wedding night. The nearest to Longbourne would have been Woburn Abbey -- no more than 15 or so miles away. A little under midway between Pemberley and Longbourne is Althorp house (seat of Vicount Spencer and the place that Diana, Princess of Wales was born and brought up) and finally there is Arbury Hall (nr. Nuneaton) -- the home of Viscount of Daventry. It is possible that this last one would be too far away (ca. 60 miles), however since it would have taken 2 - 3 days to get from Longbourne to Pemberley they may have preferred to stop over, rather than trying to complete the journey at breakneck speed (< 10 miles/hr.)!!!

Just my 2 cents worth.

Yes, Miss Bingley is aka Duckface and Mr. Hurst is the annoying wedding guest that hits on our heroine (I've forgotten her name-it's been some time since I saw the movie.) We have mentioned here before how fun it is to see familiar P&P2 faces in other films, many of them in other recent Jane Austen adaptations.

I recently watched The Advocate, starring Colin Firth, and I just could not like it. It was strange to see him acting another role that was not that of Mr. Darcy.

I agree. Perhaps Pemberley would be too much right after the wedding. Besides, decorum meant that they often had to be with others before the wedding. It would be nice for Darcy and Lizzy to have some time to themselves.

In P&P2 we have both Lizzy and Jane getting married on the same day and in the same church.
Does this occur in the book? If not, who gets married first? Jane?
And, where women supposed to be informed in what happened on their wedding night? Or did they approach their wedding night completely ignorant?
Just curious.
