But Mr. Collins wanted a prettier face, i believe and therefore moved his love to Jane then Lizzy. In fact, in some respects, Charlotte was a lot better for Collins than Mary....

I'm very lucky. My local library offers online service for free. But you are only alloted a fews hours per day and sometimes it's difficult to log on because the line is busy. You should check in your area to see if your library offers a simular sevice.

Flat rate's the only way to go. My blessed local ISP should charge me for more than just a personal GUI account for this web site has a couple hundred documents at any one time and my nap advocacy site that occasionally chokes the system when it gets a lot of publicity.

I suppose if I ever make any money from the web, I will get a business account and make up for it all. Cross your fingers for me. I am currently pitching a big talk radio station in a major market on a pet idea of mine: moderating a bulletin board somewhat like this, except it's for people who try to phone in to the talk shows and can't get on the air.

: I thought that Adrian Lukis was poorly cast as Wickham. Wickham is meant to be extremely attractive - in the book Mrs Gardiner says that Darcy does not have Wickham's countenance (which natually encompasses more than looks). I felt that if a better looking actor had been cast it would have made Elizabeth's attraction to him more credible (ie blinded by his looks).

I have an account through the alumni association of the U of MN.
It runs $180 a year for 50 hours a month. (I nearly ran out
of quota last month because of this board!!)

Check out the U's in your area, I know the UMN isn't the
only U to offer access to its alums and maybe to
non-alums as well.

Some providers (I would think most) also have web sites. I
have found some for the Twin Cities through Yahoo
(www.yahoo.com).

: Oh yes, Mary's admiration is fairly obvious in this production, although one does not get that opinion from the book. But while her temperment seems exactly suited for Mr. Collins, I fear that she is not pretty or accomplished enough to be the wife of the man who enjoys the peculiar condesention of such a noble patroness as Lady Catherine de Bourgh.

Lizzy plays the piano?

Posted by Dana Tamar on October 03, 1996 at 15:43:03:

Can Jeniffer Ehle really play the piano and sing as shown in some scenes, or is it just a playback?
On one hand she plays quite ill, as described in the book, on the other hand: is there anything Jeniffer Ehle can't do?

P.S. Does anybody (Amy??) why our names and bios do not longer exist on the bios list?

That's a very good idea. Then the talk show hosts could read the posts they agreed with on air or make fun of the ones they thought were stupid. Tom and Ray of Car Talk would love it. (They already have a website that includes their mail *gems*.)

I agree with the flat rate idea, too.

Carl Davis, the composer for P&P2, played all the pianoforte music in the production. He speaks in The Making of P&P of having to play in different styles and with varying degrees of compentency depending on which character is playing. The book also mentioned that the women who play Georgiana and Mary are very good pianists and so were able to "fake it" fairly easily. The actresses wore hidden earpieces through which the music was piped and they "finger synced" so to speak, on a silent piano.

Thanks for letting me know. Should work now.

Ehle did go to school at Interlochen in the northern part of Michigan's lower penninsula. The school and camp is known for its music, but I don't know what she studied there. I don't know what else you can study there, but maybe theatre.

I would definately ask Lizzy to close the door -- and pad it with a quilt or two for insurance.

Same Minister, Both Weddings?

Posted by DonnaT on October 03, 1996 at 18:01:38:

I don't know if this has been discussed, but it has always seemed odd to me that Wickham and Lydia's hurry-up wedding in Cheapside would not have been presided over by the same minister as the Double weddings in Meryton, also the location looks the same. Any feedback?
