: The board has been up eight full weeks and has reached the 7,500 hit mark. I think it's about as busy as I want it to be and do not plan to do any more general promotion. What is your own opinion? That it ought not be be attempted?

Having found this site for the first time today, I think its important that more people know about it. I for one plan to tell a few of my P&P2-loving friends who've been e-mailing A&E to play it again. I'm sure there are many people in the general public who would benefit from you. We're so glad to learn the happy fact that we're not alone.

: : I watched "Enchanted April" last night for the third time, but I really can't think of a thing to say about it. Each time I see I like it; however, it is not one of my top ten favorites. "EA" seems to be simply a feel-good movie. There just is not a lot of depth to it or am I missing something?
: : Susan
: .
: i definitely know what you mean...it is feel-good in that everyone is paired up in the end, marriages are 'renewed', embittered old ladies find their soft spots... at several points i sensed some underlying conflicts, eg related to the social second-class position of married women at that time (and that was why Polly Walker's independent-spirited character was so refreshing--yet she was discontented and the 'solution' seemed to be her finding a man...) and how their husbands tend to undervalue them. i had a problem with Hamlisch (sp?) beginning to cherish his wife partly due to realizing her 'usefulness' to him in his business connections. anyways, there were underlying themes of gender inequity that did not seem to be developed or resolved so that part of me felt warm-fuzzy about the fairy-tale-like ending while at the same time 'hanging' too... any thoughts about this anyone?
: -eva :-)
Yes, I agree, I saw it on video after hearing everyone rave about it for years, but then the characters seemed to let me down at the end, I think the cinematography was better than the story, or rather the panoramic quality to the location seemed to have more integrity than they did.

Isn't odd and too bad? Same thing happened to me. People had been recommending the movie to me for years, thinking it would fit right in with my passion for Brideshead, Razor's Edge, Month in the Country. -- all post Great War films. I felt let down too. And I dont' know why either. Do you suppose we wanted Rose to stray? Would we rather see Nettie go off on her own than reconcile? I guess I hungered for a less Pollyanna ending. I love the period, though. What about that Nightingale Club? Did it remind you at all of this place?

: : : I don't use a scanner, the pictures are already on the
: : : web and I capture them in Snagit or WinCopy (shareware).
: : Mac users may be interested in a too-little-known feature which is built into in all models of Macintoshes - you do not even need to have an application with which to do this. Whatever you are looking at on the screen can be captured into a PICT file by using the COMMAND-SHIFT-3 keystroke combination. In older Macs these are saved onto the root (main) level of your hard drive with the name "Screen 0" "Screen 1", "Screen 2", etc, and in newer models, the name will be "Picture 1", "Picture 2" etc. [Of course, it is a good idea to re-name these files so that you can tell what they are, and to prevent the eventual creation of "Picture 573", "Picture 2001" or somesuch. ;-) ]
: : Joan, too
: This is the first time I've ever found this site. I am amazed and delighted. This is the most amazing thing. I cannot tell you how much we watch this movie at our house. Our tapes are already breaking from overuse. I would love to get a screen saver as a surprise for my mother but we have an IBM. Any suggestions?
Yes, look up my posts in this thread. Find a shareware site, download appropriate shareware and go crazy. It's fun, it's easy and you can gaze at CF and JE to your hearts delight (I could go on about wallpaper, but I won't ;).
you are welcome to email me with questions. Don't forget to pay for shareware! (a personal pet peeve of mine)

Fixed. Writing html within perl can get you nutty. I just wanted to put in a quote-from-response separator and the way the chunks of text are processed in the script makes it hard for this novice to work out how to modify.
Period Hippos. Now there would be an esoteric web site.

: I was speaking as a comparison of Lydia and Kitty. What I was wondering was if Lydia is more flirtatious than any of the sisters (even Kitty) is she only shown with Capt. Denny while Kitty is shown with three other soldiers? Shouldn't it have been the other way around? I am talking of pre-Wickam times.
: Does this make any sense?
: -Ramona

I think that is why they added the line, when they are
preparing for the Netherfield ball: "Lizzy, I hope you will
not keep Wickham to yourself all evening. Kitty and I want
to dance with him as well, you know."--Lydia

: : Back to P&P2, another thing I wonder about is the gauzy headcovering that married women wear at home - what was the purpose?
: It is called a mob-cap, and evidently has had a number of purposes over time. I don't remember precisely during which years the various uses applied, but I believe that at this time, once a woman was married, it was no longer considered proper for a woman to show her hair - hair being an adormnent intended to attract a husband. You'll notice that once Charlotte becomes Mrs. Collins, she starts wearing one. The mob-cap was also once worn indoors to conceal hair that was not yet styled - the origination of the word comes from this purpose, from the old verb "mab" meaning to dress untidily.
: Joan, too

That is what I most regret about Lizzy marrying Darcy. I
just can't see her going around wearing one of those things!

Because you have moved on from the '70's. I used to wear those Rhoda bandanas all through college, too!

There is no set day for discussion. The date listed is the starting date for the discussion which will last until the following week, when the new material will be discussed. If you are gone the entire week, you will still be able to read the postings and I suspect that comments will spill over the weeks deadline, but I don't think this will be a problem, so feel free to comment when you return.

I found this BB by doing a Yahoo search on P&P, and am very pleased I found it, it has become one of the hightlights of my day. If I had to rely upon word of mouth, I would not have found you, for there are no other P&P2 addicts with whom I am acquainted. But Amy, this is your creation and you are the one who has to do the work, so you must rely upon your own judgement as to how to advertise it. Thank you for maintaining such a wonderful BB!

I was raised in Pontiac, Michigan (we have quite a few Michiganders here) but have spent the last 22 years in Boulder City, Nevada. For those of foreign extraction, Boulder City is located 25 miles south of Las Vegas (I am sure you have heard of that place) at Hoover Dam.
