: I watched "Enchanted April" last night for the third time, but I really can't think of a thing to say about it. Each time I see I like it; however, it is not one of my top ten favorites. "EA" seems to be simply a feel-good movie. There just is not a lot of depth to it or am I missing something?

It was only 93 min. not a mini series and it certainly can't
compare to Jane Austen.

Per the book on the Making of P & P, Pemberley exterior
was Lyme Park (Derbyshire/Cheshire border) and the
interior was Sudbury Hall in Derbyshire. Longbourn was
Luckington Court (in Wiltshire ?); Rosings was Belton
House in Lincolnshire; Hunsford was the Old Rectory at
Teigh in Leicestershire; and Netherfield was a place near
Banbury.

Hope this helps. (FYI -- according to the Friends of Firth
net site, there is a "Darcy Walk" tour at the site for the
Lyme Park location, I believe)

: : Why with all the fuss about Lydia (in particular)is she only shown with Capt. Denny till she runs off with Wickam, but Kitty is shown with at least three main soldiers? You would think Lydia would be shown with a greater variety of companions to indicate her flirtatious manner.
: : -Ramona
:
: Somebody had to run off with Wickham or there would be no story.
: Lydia was a spoiled child by her mother and ignored by her father.
: So if she was or wasn't who cares.
: Donna,

I was speaking as a comparison of Lydia and Kitty. What I was wondering was if Lydia is more flirtatious than any of the sisters (even Kitty) is she only shown with Capt. Denny while Kitty is shown with three other soldiers? Shouldn't it have been the other way around? I am talking of pre-Wickam times.
Does this make any sense?

You can catch Ehle if you are in England...

Posted by Maureen on September 29, 1996 at 15:16:56:

If you happen to be in England any time soon, the Royal Shakespeare Company is featuring Ehle in 3 seperate plays. Also, on their web site, www.hiway.co.uk/~ei/rsc.html, you can find a picture of Ehle with BLOND hair. Enjoy!!

I remember watching the series (P&P1) when it was first on
and, though I don't remember much about it, I do remember
that I enjoyed it. I do know that I like P&P2 much better,
but then I like P&P2 better than most things. I have just
ordered P&P1, Northanger Abbey, and Mansfield Park (along
with Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights for good measure) so
I'll soon be able to discuss those intelligently.
I did find the Friends of Firth page through either Alta
Vista or webcrawler and they have a really good picture from
P&P2 (not the one on page 98 of the book but close) which I
downloaded as a screen saver. Now I can sit at my desk and
just look at Darcy without having to log on.

Being a fairly recent member of this support group, I was just
wondering where everyone is. I have seen Sweden, Israel, New
Zealand, Australia, Canada and I think Belgium.
I'm in Texas (near Dallas)

I am probably being paranoid, but let's not talk about violating copyright here. I don't wish to be a spoil sport, but putting this in writing could get a lot of people in trouble.

Good question. Maybe we should have put that in the bio, though I tend not to think geograhically much any more. I live in Bloomington, IN, after 8 years in Chicgo, LA, St. Louis, Detroit and central Mich before that.

: Ramona:
: Which puts me in mind of the fact that Jane and Lizzy are definitely the parent figures in the household. Why in one of the earliest scenes when the Bennets are walking home from church both Lizzy and Jane try to subdue Lydia after her snort/laugh. From the earliest I would imagine they looked after their sisters since it was of little matter to the parents regarding any imprudent manners. If only it would have made a difference in Lydia's case. But lost virtue is irretrievable.

So, if Lizzie and Jane more or less raised themselves (due to parental inattention) , and turned out well, but their attempts to shape Lydia's behavior failed, maybe Mr. Collins was right and Lydia is just "naturally bad"? But I cannot believe that Jane Austen would have intended it so.
