Speaking as a confirmed Crawfordite, I do not find Fanny milquetoastish. Perhaps a little bit more spirit would not hurt, and I definitely prefer Lizzie, but I do like her. She is so quiet and timid because of her dependent position, and because (as I believe it) of Mansfield Park atmosphere. My dissatisfaction with the ending in not only on Henry's behalf, it's also on Fanny's. Now she will be forever in a dependent position, and she will have serious passionless Edmund, on whom I think she has a childlike crush, not mature love. I wish for her sake she married Henry-she deserves some fun in life! Plus, in my opinion she needs someone like him, not afraid of his feelings to bring her out of her shell.
As for Mary, I like her, and I find her last conversation w/ Edmund improbable, but she interests me much less than Henry
