Though I don't believe in being *quite* so harsh on JA's judgement, I do wish Mary and Edmund had just married and took off to somewhere far away, because I don't like either of them! Edmund is like another Ashley Wilkes, mealy and spineless.
I agree with you totally on the point of Henry's reformation. It was very uncharictaristic for him to take up with Maria. He was in love with Fanny, and wouldn't have done anything that would distance him from her. Even JA said that if it weren't for the affair, Henry would have married Fanny, and IMO, both would have been happy and well-off. And the children would not come out quite as pale...
