It's been so long since I wrote that message that I was convinced that I was the only completely sick person here! It's nice to see that I am not the only one. To anyone who missed that message....We both think that the " The Henry running off with Maria" is about as phony a thing yet. It is not often that Jane Austen would actually write that someone ardently loved someone else; and instead of having that relationship work out, it's completely trashed and a new one comes out of the blue in the final 40 pages!!! I truley believe that Fanny would have been better off with Henry, and that she would be happier. Edmund's character is indeed flat and spineless, and immature. He obviously doesn't know his own heart. JA writes that he slowly stops loving Miss Crawford and starts to see in his cousin more than just friendship. Excuse me but that sounds a bit gooey to me. To think that JA wasted all that time to say that Henry was actually improving......I think a rewrite could be in order in here. I know it's just a book, but it could have been so much better....
