] I like Edmund too. It's been hard for me to read a lot of the posts about MP, because so many people seem to think that Fanny would have been better off with Henry Crawford. I cannot disagree more. Crawford was a cad who, IMO, only fancied himself in love with Fanny because of the novelty of the idea. Edmund had to have his eyes opened to Mary's true character before really noticing Fanny, but I think that, sadly, that kind of thing happens more often than people care to think. JA says that he did cease to love Mary and started loving Fanny, and I believe her. Some people need a whack on the head (figuratively, of course), before they can come to their senses and see what's really good for them. Once Edmund's eyes were opened, I believe he really did realize that Mary was all wrong for him and the person that he really wanted had been right under his nose all along. I do not think this minimizes his love for Fanny--actually, I would imagine that in Edmund's mind it made Fanny all that much more dear to him, realizing that in his deluded stupidity he could easily have lost her.
Thanks so much! I COMPLETELY agree with what you said.
I've been gone and not able to post back here often but I plan to change that. I really don't know what to say about your comments because they express what I think so truthfully. I'm very glad someone else feels the same way I do.
Thanks again.
