If it's one of your favorites, you have to see it, Nora. If you can't find it, I'll send you my tape. I love Eliot, too and was in love with Adam's character -- so honest. But the adaptation I'm afraid doesn't give him as much time to come through, and spends an awful lot of time on the Hetty/young squire forbidden love line. I guess that's what the adapters thought would sell, instead of the upstanding Adam, but to me, that was made the book hold its charm for me. Eliot's heros are so cool, so different from other writers' men. That vulnerability again, I guess,that's so appealing like Darcy.
Only, since Eliot was more intimate with men, I think she's better at getting them right from the inside, and writing actual thoughts for them, as opposed to Austen's way of usually only letting you hear what they sau and see how they carry themselves.
