I read The Buccaneers after seeing the video and I
got a lot of enjoyment from it. I don't, however, think it's as good a book as Wharton's Age of Innocence or her novella Ethan Frome, which is discussed a bit in other messages on the board. I love Alcott's Little Women. I never met anyone who didn't love it.
