] Oh yes isn't the ending nice in that version! I can even blot out the awful dresses and enjoy the other things that are so close to the book. Of course I love the movie version too.

I think that this version has a lot of merit. Of course, you have to get past the horrible costumes, bad hairdos and poor production values. Because it is so much longer, it leaves has more of the book.
That said, I still like the newer version better. And Ann Firbank (I think) who played Anne in the 1970? version cannot touch Amanda Root. Sophie Thompson as Mary Musgrove was also far superior to the 1970? actress, also.
