] More news, Cheryl: according to this really smart person I know, (Tobias) Smollett's The Expedition of Humphry Clinker may be the best epistolary novel. Apparently hilarious. Others may know more--I've never had the pleasure of reading any Smollett.

It is funny, but very hard to read, just like Lawrence Sterne's stuff. I couldn't finish it, but I intend to go back to it some day.......
