I've read this book so many times over the years, that I cannot remember my first impressions of it! yes, it is preachy, but what I like about it, compared to other books of LMAlcott's day, is that the girls are real girls, they get angry, they do hurtful things, they can be selfish, etc....the style of the time was to make the heroines models of virtue, perfect icons who overcome the odds to get their reward. These girls have to overcome their own character flaws to get their reward.
