I believe JA did not like Town. Maybe Henry can put his finger on a passage from the letters that proves it -- I couldn't locate one in a quick pass at the letters.
But I think she tells us she prefers country life by setting her stories there, mostly. S&S is about the only novel where anything really important happens in London. And she also tells us by the way she portrays many of the ladies and gentlemen of fashion.
I wish I could find the poem by William Blake about London. If I find it on the web, I'll share it. I think it's called "London."
