It always amazes me how enterprising formerly-rich people now without money can be, and how cleverly they take advantage of everyone they know to perpetuate a life style they can no longer afford. This was probably prevalent behavior and JA certainly is astute and portraying how it all works (in the case of Lady Susan anyway). If she had spent more time with her, Fredrica might have turned out just like her.
