Tracy--are you saying you think there's no possible way Austen is exploring the limits of female power?
I think there's a way--Lady Susan is impoverished and fairly powerless. But she doesn't just hide away in a corner and live with her powerlessness. She uses the means she has at her disposal to get herself wealth and situation.
Or is that interpretation completely nuts? :-P
