The books I keep returning to are Maeve Binchy's The Glass Lake and Circle of Friends. For some reason, I like Ireland in the 50's. I tend to return to these whenever we read something "heavy" in English (like Lord of the Flies now) and my mind is in need of something light and fairly fluffy to get off the symbolism of Piggy and Simon. The other thing I return to is Dorothy Parker, whenever my life gets too depressing and I need to read some death-obsessed poetry. (Don't let me scare you off, she's really great.) But you can look at my post under hates for the rest of this rant.
