] As for the authors I have trouble with, I have never made it past the first page of The Golden Bowl (Henry James). Edith Wharton gives you the same world only clearly written, so why torture yourself?

I don't know about the Golden Bowl, because the only James I've ever read is The Portrait of a Lady, but Wharton! Ack! I've got three of her books sitting in my room which have been read to page 10 and then put down.... I fall asleep. It's all about openings I think. If I like the begining, I'll read the book. That's why I've never read Wuthering Heights and I actually did read The World According to Garp, which is definetly NOT my style (though I liked it in the end)
