] Another thought -- Angel mentions that he could forgive Tess (in the wedding night scene) but his issues with her past went beyond the two of them. He also talked about how word of her past indiscretions were known, and could spread, and this would impact their children. He didn't want to have a family with her.
I think someone was rationalizing and trying to justify his actions here. He had planned to leave the country anyway and go to Australia or the States, where it would have been extremely unlikely that anyone would recognize Tess. Why not just step up those plans and leave a little earlier than expected? No, someone is grasping at straws here.
